OVERVIEW:
Hanoi is fast becoming one of the most fashionable art centers in Asia. We have designed a very special tour to help visitors discover the secret people and places of the Hanoi art world. Our knowledgeable guide will take you to the most interesting and important museums and galleries as well as some quirky galleries and arty hang-outs far from the regular tourist trail.
PROGRAM DETAILS:
Long hidden from the international art world by isolation, contemporary Vietnamese art is now achieving worldwide recognition for its vitality and originality. Since the mid-1980's Vietnamese art has moved into a new phase in which artists are allowed to have more freedom of creation and expression. As a result, artists from Vietnam in recent years have become more exploratory, imaginative and audacious in their work.
This half day tour is an in-depth look at the evolution of Vietnamese art. Start at the National Museum of Fine Arts where art, sculptures, and textiles are on display. Continue to Propaganda Art, a style developed during the war-era but still used today. Although slightly kitsch, this art form is of great importance to the Vietnamese art movement. The next two stops display the finest in local artists. Apricot Gallery and Art Vietnam are all paving the way for contemporary artists to display their works of art. Through these galleries, worldwide interest in Vietnamese art has increased.
The tour is a half day and can be done in the morning or afternoon. Along the way have a cup of Vietnam's famous brew in one of the city's original gallery coffee shops.
