Who Should Go?
Topas is ideal for those wishing to experience the authentic hilltribe culture and natural beauty of the remote Sapa region without sacrificing comfort. Its proximity to trekking trails and hilltribe villages make it possible for guests to take day hikes and excursions, returning to the Lodge for a shower, a nice meal and a clean comfortable room. The Lodge’s environmental sustainability policy means that there is no air conditioning, however due to the cooler temperatures of the region this is rarely of concern.
When to Go?
The weather is a big factor to take in to consideration when planning a visit to Sapa as most people go for the outdoor activities such as trekking. The best time to visit is from September to November and March to May when the weather is dry and the evenings are cool. The rainy season lasts from May to September and it is not recommended to go to Sapa during these months as the heavy downpours create landslides, flood trekking paths and oftentimes wash out bridges. Although dry, December to February can be very cold with temperatures falling to freezing in the evenings but by midday the temperatures are usually mild.
What not to Miss?
Trekking through the hilltribe villages of Sapa. Relaxing on the balcony soaking in the surrounding views. Light walks to local schools and Red Dao villages. Pedalling downhill on Topas’s Mountain bikes. Climbing to Silverstone Viewpoint for rewarding views.
What’s Cooking?
The restaurant at Topas is situated in an old traditional Tay stilt house overlooking the Sapa countryside. The building was moved piece by piece and painstakingly reconstructed, incorporating modern amenities while respecting the original, historical qualities. This drive for authenticity carries over in to its menu where the restaurant features Vietnamese dishes cooked and served by the minority people of the surrounding villages.
